May 10-14, 2004 The ninth XBRL International Conference was held in Auckland, New Zealand. The theme of this meeting was "Exchanging Business Information" and the contributions of the securities exchanges in New Zealand were introduced. As for the cases in Japan, Yoshiaki Wada presented about a demonstration experiment in Bank of Japan and other major banks, so did Yu Tokita about an experiment of adopting XBRL in digest of earnings. Over 190 participants joined the meeting: over 60 from New Zealand, over 130 from other countries (including 31 Japanese).
November 15-19, 2004 The tenth XBRL International Conference was held in Bruxelles, Belgium. The theme of this meeting was "Financial Reporting Goes Global: XBRL and IFRS Working Together". 450 participants joined from 30 countries, which made this meeting record-breaking. Among the speeches of financial regulators from Western countries were the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Committee of European Banking Supervisors (CEBS), UK Financial Services Authority (FSA), and the news presented by the Financial Services Agency In Japan became a memorable one. Following the theme in this global meeting held in Europe, reporting based on IFRS has taken effect in Europe and IFRS taxonomy attract attentions. In this meeting, focusing on the views from XBRL users, add-in features of Microsoft Word and Excel for creating XBRL instance documents were announced in public.
April 26-29, 2005 The 11th XBRL International Conference was held in Boston, United States. 380 participants joined from 30 countries, and the meeting became one of the best global meetings held in North America. The theme of this global meeting was "Better, Faster, Smarter Business Reporting Using XBRL". 50-odd participants gave lectures: AICPA President and CEO Barry Melancon, Financial Executive Institute President and CEO Colleen Cunningham, Chief Accountant of the US SEC Don Nicolaisen, FASB Chairman Robert Herz and others. Among them, Operations & Management Office of the Chairman in SEC, Managing Executive, Peter Derby invited listed companies to participate actively in the XBRL Voluntary Filling Program using XBRL in EDGAR system which was launched in the same year in SEC. This was the first time in the XBRL history that SEC, FASB, FEI gave lectures which was realized after a long wait. During the XBRL International Steering Committee meeting, it was decided that XBRL France is to participate as a Provisional Jurisdiction, which meant further promotion of XBRL adoption in Europe.
November 7-10, 2005 The 12th XBRL International Conference was held at Royal Park Hotel in Tokyo under the joint sponsorship of XBRL International, XBRL Japan, and Japanese Institute of Certified Public Accountants. It was the second time that XBRL International Conference was held. The theme of this meeting was "Bringing Business into Focus with XBRL - Revolution in Corporate Reporting". 421 participants joined from 20 countries. In this conference, an opening address was given by sponsors: Kiyoshi Kanai (Chairman of XBRL Japan), Tsuguoki Fujinuma (Chairman of Japanese Institute of Certified Public Accountants), Kurt P. Ramin (Chairman of XBRL International). After that, the president of Tokyo Stock Exchange offered a keynote talk, followed by various kinds of sessions given by Ikuo Nishikawa (Vice-chairman of Accounting Standards Board of Japan), Yuichi Ikeda (Chief of Corporate Accounting and Disclosure section in FSA), Jeff Naumann (US SEC), Yoshiaki Wada (Bank of Japan's Financial Systems and Bank Examination Department), and Mike Bartell (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation). In the session by SEC, a speech from Christopher Cox, Chairman of the SEC, was given as video messages, which was appropriate for the 5th anniversary of XBRL's birth and added enthusiasm into the meeting. It also gave participants a realization of the promotion of adopting XBRL in Asian countries; many participants from Asian countries including Korea joined.
May 16-19, 2006 The 13th XBRL International Conference was held in Madrid, Spain with the theme of "A working Reality: Sharing the same language". Around 470 participants joined from 21 countries. It shows remarkable progress in actual use of XBRL in each country: an activity report of the host country, Spain, including a case example of XBRL system working in CNMV and Bank of Spain, reports from Europe including an announcement from Britain about the implementation of delivering and receiving XBRL data in corporate income tax return in 2010 and from Holland about a formal version of a taxonomy based on the country's taxonomy project approaching its completion, the presentation by Japan on practical use of XBRL. Several presentations from Japan were given by Yoshiaki Wada in Bank of Japan about the launch of an XBRL system receiving financial data from over 500 banks in production environment, by Mr. Tanji from Shinginko Tokyo about the launch of a system utilizing delivered and received XBRL data for online loan applications, and by Mr. Tsuchimoto in Tokyo Stock Exchange about its effort on utilization of XBRL including a test project opening XBRL data for the digest of earnings to the public.
September 18, 2006 "XBRL Dimensions 1.0" was officially recommended.
November 13-16, 2006 The 17th WCOA (World Congress of Accountants) was held in Istanbul, Turkey. WCOA, dubbed as "Olympics of the accountancy profession," gathering accountants and people concerned in accounting. Every 4-5 years, they continued to gather from 1904 when the first meeting was held until today.  The theme was "Accountants: Generating Economic Growth and Stability Worldwide", and around 6,000 participants joined from 120 countries in the world. 140 Japanese including Tsuguoki Fujinuma, chairman of JICPA and people concerned in accounting joined. As the members of XBRL Japan, Eiichi Watanabe in Tokyo Shoko Research Ltd. and Yoshiaki Wada in Bank of Japan gave some presentations about the importance of XBRL on delivering and receiving financial data and attracted a great deal of interest.
December 4-6, 2006 The 14th XBRL International Conference was held in Philadelphia, US with the theme of "Interactive Data: The Revolution in Business Reporting". Around 500 participants joined from 27 countries. Chairman of the US SEC, Cox, took the rostrum for the first time in this conference, in which he stated the importance of interactive data of corporate information and the possibility of XBRL.
June 4-7, 2007 The 15th XBRL International Conference was held in Munich, Germany with the theme of "Integrating Business Reporting Worldwide From SMEs to Large Companies".
New topics such as activities on XBRL by SAP and European organizations along with European Central Bank were announced. As for Asian countries, people concerned in securities exchanges in India, Taiwan, China, and Japan respectively introduced their efforts on the XBRL adoptions.
August 6, 2007 An XBRL seminar sponsored by Central Bank of Argentina was held in Buenos Aires, and 170 participants including and people concerned in the government and accounting joined. Some guest speakers from overseas including Yoshiaki Wada from Bank of Japan, Manuel Ortega from Bank of Spain, and Paulo Caetano da Silva from Central Bank of Brazil joined and gave presentations about the situation on practical use of XBRL in each central bank, contributing the momentum accelerations of XBRL in Argentine.
August 9, 2007 An XBRL seminar sponsored by Chilean Association of Accountants was held in Santiago, Chile, in which over 120 participants including people concerned in the government and accounting joined. Yoshiaki Wada from Bank of Japan, who came quickly after the seminar in Argentine, the XBRL advisor in Central Bank of Argentina Daniel Diaz gave presentations about the status of XBRL in each country as guest speakers, promoting the adoption of activities on XBRL in Chile.
November 5-7, 2007 An XBRL Work-shop sponsored by CEBS (Committee of European Banking Supervisors) was held in Amsterdam, in which about 70 participants who were regulators and financial institutions from 17 European countries joined. Yoshiaki Wada from Bank of Japan was also invited to the work-shop as a guest speaker and gave a presentation about the overview of XBRL projects, attracting more interest.
December 3-6, 2007 The 16th XBRL International Conference was held in Vancouver, Canada with the theme of "Convergence, Communication and Interactive Data". About 280 participants joined from all over the world. Commissioner of the Financial Services Agency, Gomi took the rostrum as guest speaker along with Chairman of the US SEC, Cox. He introduced the EDINET project and stated about the collaboration with US SEC, Brutish IASC, and FSA in Japan on considering how to utilize taxonomies, which attracted attention.
May 5-8, 2008 The 17th XBRL International Conference was held in Eindhoven, Holland with the theme of "Evolution of Business Reporting: XBRL in Action". Participants gathered mainly from Europe reported examples of practical usage of XBRL among each other and shared their knowledge.
October 6-7, 2008 An XBRL seminar sponsored by Reserve Bank of India was held in Pune located the suburb of Mumbai, India. In this seminar, about 80 participants from central banks of Asian countries such as Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia along with people concerned regulators in India, joined as a whole. Several presentations were given from 5 persons as guest speakers: Yoshiaki Wada in Bank of Japan, XBRL International Vice Chairman Conor O'kelly, Ignacio Boixo and Victor Morilla in Bank of Spain, and Stave Davis in APRA (Australian Prudential Reporting Agency) in Australia. This seminar was recognized as an opening ceremony to promote XBRL adoption in India, where introduction had been slow. At the end of this seminar, the announcement of an official application for establishing a jurisdiction to XII (XBRL International Inc.) was made with unanimous applause.
October 15-16, 2008 The 18th XBRL International Conference was held in Washington, D.C. with the theme of "Business Reporting for Better Decisions by Managers, Investors, Governments and Citizens", in which about 530 participants from 33 countries joined. Despite of the time of monetary disorder, diverse discussions were conducted with awareness that ensuring transparency in business reporting would lead to a better function of the market.
December 18, 2008 U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approved and announced compulsory reporting with XBRL. Large companies with market capitalizations of over 50 hundred million dollars were required to submit financial reports using XBRL in the first quarter of the year after June 15, 2009. Other companies adopting U.S. accounting standards also need to submit reports using XBRL within 2 years. At the same time, the companies adopting International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) were required to submit financial reports using XBRL for fiscal year ending June 15, 2011.
April 27, 2009 XBRL International announced the formation of a new Board of Directors for the purpose of enhancing its governance system as organization, and assigned 8 directors.
June 23-25, 2009 The 19th XBRL International Conference was held in Paris, France with the theme of "Reducing reporting burden with XBRL", in which about 400 participants from 37 countries joined. In this meeting, Formula Specification 1.0, which had been a pending question for a long time, was officially approved as a recommendation and 3 directors including Yoshiaki Wada from Bank of Japan were assigned as additional members of Board of Directors.
