April 6, 2000 A meeting in New York City was held to officially change the code name from "XFRML" to "XBRL".
May 24, 2000 XBRL Technology Briefing for Federal Government was held in Washington, D.C in which the first Japanese person was exposed to the XBRL world.
May 25, 2000 XBRL "Liaison & Outreach" Symposium was held at KPMG office in a suburb of Washington, D.C. in which a Japanese person joined.
July 31, 2000 The release of XBRL Specification 1.0 and C&I Taxonomy under U.S. GAAP was officially announced.
February 19-23, 2001 The first XBRL International Conference was held in London, in which 6 Japanese joined. A draft of "XBRL for General Ledger" was announced in this meeting.
June 11-15, 2001 The second XBRL International Conference was held in New Orleans, in which 6 Japanese joined. A draft of XBRL Specification 2.0 was announced in this meeting.
October 22-26, 2001 The third XBRL International Conference was held in Sydney, in which 10 Japanese joined. The first meeting of XBRL International Steering Committee took place in which XBRL Japan participated as a jurisdiction represented by Eiichi Watanabe who was a chair person of XBRL Japan Liaison Committee. A draft of XBRL for IAS was announced in this meeting.
December 14, 2001 XBRL Specification 2.0 was officially announced after a period of hearings.
March 4-8, 2002 The fourth XBRL International Conference was held in Berlin, in which 18 Japanese joined. Dr. Walter Hamscher was elected as a chairman of a steering committee in a meeting of XBRL International Steering Committee. In this meeting, "IAS Taxonomy" draft based on XBRL Specification 2.0 and "XBRL for GL 1.0" was announced.
April 4, 2002 A symposium called "XBRL Meets the Needs of Banking" was held in the office of Morgan Stanley in New York.
June 17-21, 2002 The fifth XBRL International Conference was held in Toronto, in which 20 Japanese joined. In this meeting, "XBRL Specification 2.1" draft and "NA GAAP C&I Taxonomy" draft were announced.
November 11-15, 2002 The sixth XBRL International Conference was held in Tokyo, in which over 270 participants gathered from the world including Japan. This meeting was the largest and most substantial meeting in which Toshihiko Fukui, who later became the Governor of Bank of Japan, gave a keynote talk and some organizations such as Tokyo Stock Exchange, Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi, Ltd., Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, and Wacoal Holdings Corp. gave presentations of their efforts of XBRL. National Tax Agency announced that they will use XBRL for electronic return just before the meeting.
March 19-22, 2003 The seventh XBRL International Conference was held in Amsterdam, in which 260 participants from 21 countries of the world including 20 Japanese joined. In this conference, it was reported that the introduction of XBRL into a major power such as FDIC supervising certain financial institutions in the United States made progress steadily. As for the common themes of the consortium, the discussion on the XBRL 2.1 specification and Financial Reporting Taxonomies Architecture (FRTA) was held in great detail. The latter was intended for a guideline of designing taxonomies in the future based on the experience and knowledge of developing IAS and US GAAP Taxonomy.
November 3-7, 2003 The eighth XBRL International Conference was held in Seattle, in which 284 participants from 19 countries of the world including 35 Japanese joined. Tim Bray, who is one of the father of XML, and others gave a keynote talk. In this conference, a competition of XBRL tools companies called "XBRL Software Shootout" had taken place for the first time. UBmatrix won the prize for 'People's Choice Award', Semansys won the prize for 'Instance Creation and Consumption Award', and FUJITSU won the prize for 'Taxonomy Builder Award'. Other participants are Corel, DecisionSoft, Ipedo, and Hitachi Group.
